Description:

Chess Summer Camp:

What game is almost 2000 years old but still stumps modern computers and master players? Chess! Have fun and learn the rules of this strategy game while, you develop critical and analytic thinking skills. Activities will be geared to true beginners and advanced players alike and each camp will include a chess tournament. Students will get a chess t-shirt, trophy, keychains and chess coloring book. Snacks will be provided.

PLEASE NOTE: Each student’s skill level will be evaluated on the first day of class and he or she will be placed in a group with other students at their level. Students may move to a different group depending on their development as chess players during the course of the workshop.

Open to 6-13 years old. Please call if older than 13 years old.

Chess Tournament Preparation Camp:

Have you mastered the basics of chess and are interest in participating in tournaments? This workshop will help you to develop more advanced skills and strategies and you will learn how to prepare for United States Chess Federation (USCF) rated tournaments. Open to 6-13 years old. Please call if older than 13 years old. Students will get a chess t-shirt, trophy, keychains and chess coloring book. Snacks will be provided.

 

PLEASE NOTE: This is an advanced workshop intended for students with previous experience or those who have completed our Chess Camp workshop. Students are expected to understand these concepts before the program starts: – Piece development – Controlling the center – Basic understanding of openings – General tactics such as forks, skewers, pins, double attacks and discover attacks – King/Rook checkmate – En passant

Students’ skill level will be evaluated the first day of class and they will be placed into a group of other students whom are at the same level. Later in the course, they might be moved to a different group depending on their development as chess players.

A chess tournament will be held near the end of the program and trophies will be given for excellence in learning and outstanding performance. Registration includes chess coloring book, t-shirt, keychains, and trophy.
